A quarry, an open-air classroom

A quarry is also an open-air classroom.

In April, we welcomed second-year Earth and Life Sciences (SVT) students on the Biology-Geology track from UFR SEN (University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne) at one of our sites in the pre-Ardennes ridges.

On the agenda

  • Reading of sedimentary strata
  • Lithological identification of rocks
  • Observation of Rhynchonella, markers of the Lower Jurassic, which inscribe the region's sedimentary history directly into the rock

The quarry face, a full-scale geological cross-section

A quarry face is a full-scale geological cross-section. The matter, the scale, deep time: things that a lecture hall cannot reproduce.

It is also our role, as an operator, to make this medium accessible to those training in the Earth sciences.
