Key facts

MCA Matériaux Concassés Ardennais produces a complete range of civil-works aggregates at the Douzy quarry (Ardennes): unbound 0/20 to 0/150 (wearing, base, foundation, capping layers), hydraulically bound for heavy capping layers, crushed stone 40/80 and 40/150 (drainage, foundation), sand 0/2 to 0/6 (backfill, embedding), and yellow Jurassic limestone riprap for gabions, banks and retaining walls. CE-marked aggregates according to EN 13242. Direct delivery on site throughout northern France, Belgium and Luxembourg by own fleet of 200 B100 vehicles.

Unbound mixtures, graded materials and crushed stone for your civil-works projects.

Our drainable unbound material has optimal properties controlled by our laboratory. Hydraulically bound material delivered directly to your sites for sub-base and foundation layers.

  • Unbound 0/20, 0/31.5, 0/63, 0/150 – unbound aggregate mixtures for roads
  • Hydraulically bound – mixture bound with hydraulic binders
  • Crushed stone 40/80, 40/150 – for foundation layers
  • Sand 0/2, 0/4, 0/6 – for backfill and embedding

MCA civil-works aggregates – your questions.

Which unbound mixture for which road layer?

Unbound 0/20 or 0/31.5 for wearing and surface courses of paths, parkings and light roads. Unbound 0/63 for base courses. Unbound 0/150 for capping and foundation layers of heavy civil-works sites and platforms. The choice depends on layer thickness and supported traffic.

Difference between unbound and hydraulically bound mixtures?

An unbound mixture is a blend of aggregates without binder, compacted mechanically. A hydraulically bound mixture incorporates a binder (cement, slag, lime + fly ash) which hardens after compaction, providing higher bearing capacity and stability. The hydraulically bound mixture is used for capping layers of heavy platforms, HGV parkings and high-traffic roads.

What is riprap and what are its uses?

Riprap is a large crushed rock block (typically 100 to 1000 kg per piece) used for civil engineering structures: river bank protection, retaining walls, marine foundations, decorative gabions. MCA produces yellow Jurassic limestone riprap extracted from the Douzy quarry, valued for its warm tone and resistance.

Where does the yellow Douzy stone come from?

The yellow Douzy stone comes from the Jurassic limestones of the pre-Ardennes ridges, extracted at the MCA Douzy quarry (Ardennes). Its yellow-ochre colour is characteristic of the local deposit and makes the material highly valued for landscaping, decorative retaining walls and visible gabions.

Which crushed-stone size for a drainage trench?

Crushed stone 40/80 is the standard size for drainage trenches: its open grading ensures good water flow while maintaining bearing capacity. For deep drainage or retention basins, crushed stone 40/150 is preferred.

What is the delivery area for civil-works aggregates?

MCA delivers its civil-works aggregates throughout northern France (Grand Est, Hauts-de-France, Île-de-France, Champagne-Ardenne, Normandy, Bourgogne-Franche-Comté) from the Douzy quarry. Own fleet of 200 vehicles on B100 biofuel. Delivery also available to Belgium (Wallonia) and Luxembourg via proximity to the border.

Do MCA civil-works aggregates comply with standards?

Yes. The aggregates produced at the Douzy quarry are CE marked according to the standard EN 13242 (aggregates for unbound and hydraulically bound materials used in civil engineering structures and roads). MCA is also ISO 9001 (quality), ISO 14001 (environment) and ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety) certified.

Mobile concrete plant available for civil-works projects?

Yes. MCA can provide mobile concrete plants directly at large civil-works sites (platforms, earthworks, heavy roads) for production as close as possible to the need, supplemented by the supply of CE aggregates from Douzy.
